Ich hasse Aufziehen! / I hate Ribbing

At the moment it's still really cold here, but I know it won't last until I'll have finished Inishmore. Therefore I postponed this and picked up Sweet Jacket again. I'm knitting a model from a German big-size knitting magazine, which I bought a few years ago because of this pattern. The instruction is, very humbly spoken, just about so-so. There are some vaguenesses in there, especially in the crochet part. In principle the jacket is about 48cm high knitted and at the bottom of the knitting there is a crochet bordure. This is according to the measurements and the foto supposed to be 6cm shorter on the sleeves, but this is not mentioned in the instruction. Anyway, I would like to have the knitted part about 4cm longer at the body, because the crochet part is very lacy and so I think this is better for me.

Tonight I just wanted to finish the back, which I had been working on more or less all day. I was out having breakfast with two friends and I knitted it there up to the armeholes. I took the measure in the Café and I had the necessary height. I thought so anyway. At home I knitted the armhole-shape, after some time I realized, that I had measured wrongly, the back below the arms was 3cm too short. I thought, well, I'm going to enlarge the not so lacy part of the crochet bordure a bit and all is okay. Two rows before shaping the neck I realized I had overread the first five stitches decrease at the armholes and the whole thing was 10 stitches too wide.

As if this two-fold dimwittedness of mine was not enough, the jacket will be of a wonderful untwisted baby-merino-silk yarn. It is wonderful to knit, looks and feels wonderful, and took me almost 90 minutes for the ribbing of 25cm in order to prevent the yarn from ripping or turning into strange wormlets. Honestly, were the jacket not so pretty and the yarn not so unavailable any more, I would have loved to throw this damn thing into the bin and start all over again. Given that I ribbed well-behavedly meditatively muttering non-quotable words. Did I mention my next project will be a jumper in stockinette of my usual making?
