Fair Isle

Es ist nicht so, dass ich nichts mehr stricken würde, ähem. Nachdem der Fake Fair Isle bis auf die fehlenden Knöpfe fertig ist (er trocknet grade), habe ich natürlich direkt ein neues Projekt angefangen. Und irgendwie geht dieses Fair Isle oder Ajourmuster Stricken wirklich rasch. Das jetzt ist der Stand heute, das Ding ist 32 cm hoch und ich muss mir langsam Gedanken um die Ärmellösung machen. Wird natürlich ein ganz normaler überschnittener Ärmel oder vielleicht doch ein Raglan. Letzteres würde mir das Steeken ersparen und könnte gut zu dem Muster passen.

Das Garn ist ein Gemisch aus Shetland, Alpaca und Mohair, wunderbar weich, fusselt fast nicht und strickt sich wunderbar. Die Farben sind einfach die, die es gab. Empfohlen ist eine Nadelstärke 4-4,5, ich stricke aber mit 3,0, weil dann einfach die Maschen nicht so groß werden, da Muster Stricken ja immer bedeutet, etwas lockerer zu stricken. So fühlt sich das Ganze nicht brettig an und ist doch wunderbar dicht.

Dieser Pulli ist einer zum Üben. Ich wollte nicht direkt an die Alpaca gehen, weil ich erstmal ein Gefühl für Farbwahl und Übergänge kriegen wollte. Bei diesem Pulli hab ich einen Entwurf von Ann Feitelsen verändert (Lunna - Ravelry Link), wobei das große Muster in Ordnung ist, während das kleinere (mit hellbraunem Hintergrund) etwas amorph aussieht. Da hat das mit der Farbverteilung noch nicht so richtig gut hingehauen. Mir gefällt es trotzdem gut, aber das ist beispielsweise etwas, das ich beim nächsten Mal anders machen würde.

Wenn ich mich ranhalte, hab ich den auch bald fertig und dann gibts den ersten wirklich sehr aufwändigen Fair Isle mit mehr Farben. Die wahre Herausforderung beim vielfarbigen Stricken ins übrigens nicht dieses, sondern das Fäden Vernähen. Davon gibt es Batzillionen! Ich versuche das, während des Strickens immer mal wieder zu machen, aber ich habe da noch ein paar Stunden Vernäharbeit zu machen, bevor ich das Teil anziehen kann.

It's not that I'm knitting no more. Since the Fake Fair Isle is done apart from the missing buttons (it's drying right now), I started a new project. And somehow Fair Isle knitting goes really smooth. The picture shows what I did from Monday till today, the thing is 32cm (about 13'') high and I'll have to think about the sleeve solution. It will be a dropped shoulder sweater or maybe even a raglan.This would save me from steeking this time and might go well with the pattern.

The yarn is a mixture of Shetland, Alpaca and Mohair, very cozy, hardly pilling and knits beautifully. The colours are the ones there were. They suggested needle size 6-7, I knit it in size 2.5. So the stitches aren't too big due to the fact that you have to knit quite loosely in Fair Isle. So now it doesn't feel too tight and still is dense.

This sweater is mainly for practise. I didn't want to start knitting alpaca right away, I will first have to develop an awareness for colours and their transitions. For this sweater I adapted a design of Ann Feitelsen (Lunna - Ravelry-Link). In this I like the big pattern, whereas the smaller one (with light brown background) looks somewhat amorphous. In this I didn't make the best solution of colours, still I like it. But thats for example something I'd change next time.

If I go on as before I will have this one finished soon also an then there will be the first real Fair Isle with more colour shades. By the way, the true challenge of colour patterns is not knitting, but darning in the ends. There are loads of them. I try to do that every now and then as I go along, still there remain enough for some hours of darning.
